Samuel Iddings

Originally from the Metro Atlanta area, Mr. Iddings holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama and a Master's Degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.  During his collegiate career, Mr. Iddings was a member of several instrumental ensembles; the marching band, JSU Trumpet ensemble, Basketball, Volleyball, and Gymnastics Pep Band, JSU A Capella Choir and Chamber Singers. 

This is Mr. Iddings' sixth year as a director of the Cass Band.

​Outside of the classroom, Mr. Iddings has been a member of several performance ensembles within Drum Corps International. This includes Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps , The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, and The Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Iddings also has served as a member of the educational staff for the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, Atlanta CV Drum and Bugle Corps, Spirit of Atlanta, and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps.  Mr. Iddings also served as a Drill and Show Designer for several high school groups in the southeast.

During his time at Cass, Mr. Iddings has overseen the Cass Concert Band,  Cass "Blue Crew" pep band, the Cass Marching Band, and the CHS Wind Ensemble. Mr. Iddings was honored to be named the Star Teacher for the 2021-2022 School Year. 

​Mr. Iddings holds professional affiliations with the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), and National Bandmasters Association (NBA). Mr. Iddings currently lives in Marietta with his wife, LeAnna, who is also a music educator.

Alex Shive​

​A native of Opelika, Alabama, Mr. Shive is a graduate of Auburn University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Instrumental Music Education. 

​This is Mr. Shive's fourth year as a director of the Cass Band. 

During his tenure at Auburn, Mr. Shive performed with multiple ensembles including The Auburn University Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, Basketball Pep Band, Jazz Band, and Brass Ensemble. While at Auburn University, Mr. Shive also worked as an undergraduate staff member, assisting with all logistical needs for the band department.

Since undergrad, Mr. Shive has continued to strive for excellence as an educator and has served as a band director in both Alabama and Georgia at Dalton Public Schools(Elementary music and beginning band), Phenix City School(Associate Director of Bands), Cartersville City Schools(Director of Bands), and now Cass High School. In addition to his band director responsibilities, Mr. Shive is also the Director and Ensemble Coordinator for Atlanta Quest’s Independent Indoor Drumline “Q2”, the Battery Instructor for the Macy’s Great American Marching Band in New York City, and percussion consultant/clinician for multiple schools and universities including Auburn University, Georgia Tech, and Point University.
​
 Mr. Shive holds professional affiliations with the National Association for Music Education (NAFME), Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), Alabama Music Educators Association (AMEA), Percussive Arts Society (PAS), National Band Association (NBA), and is an Innovative Percussion endorsed educational artist.

Bragen Hughes
Director of Color Guards

Bragen is a native of Chelsea, Alabama where she first was a member of the Chelsea High School Color Guard and Winter Guard. After high school, Bragen went on to pursue a degree in Nursing from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. 

Miss Hughes is in her first year as the Director of Color Guards at Cass. 

Bragen has a tenured performance and teaching history. As a performer, she was a member of the JSU Marching Southerners Color Guard where she served as a captain for three years. In addition to this, she has been a member of Devenire Winter Guard, Reverie Winter Guard, Center Stage Winter Guard, and Etude Winter Guard and Atlanta CV Drum and Bugle Corps. She most recently served on the educational staff of Noir Winter Guard from Atlanta, Georgia.  

Miss Hughes is excited to be a part of the Cass family and lead the way for the 2025-2026 Cass Guard!
